We get a lot of feedback about The Gathering — most positive, and some negative. In general, people are really excited about this event, and it is really gratifying to see so many people buying tickets already, when the event is still over 5 months away.
Some of the less positive comments centre around our terms & conditions. When this event was first envisioned, it was seen as something highly exclusive, for people who were extremely devoted to their search for conscious awakening and willing to sacrifice anything for spiritual growth. And so the terms and conditions were made very stringent — requiring people to be in silence the entire 7 days, and banning smoking, drinking, caffeine, sugar, and electronic devices.
What we’ve come to realize is that it is ok to let this event be more inclusive, and to allow people to be who they are without forcing them into a “spiritual” mold. I personally have a hard time living without coffee, and I know plenty of highly evolved people who smoke, drink and swear heavily. And then there are those who may not have much of a background in meditation or being in silence, and if they are open to coming to an event like The Gathering, we want to include them as well.
So much of the text on the website has now been revised to be much more permissive and inclusive, including both our home page that describes the event, and our Terms and Conditions. If you’ve already registered, you received a copy of the Terms and Conditions with your ticket, and that version has now been superseded by the new version online.
If you were holding off on buying a ticket to The Gathering because you felt that the restrictions were too strict, now you can relax and join us! Namaste and Welcome.
